TikTok today announced that its Android app can now be downloaded directly from its website, besides the Google Play Store. This move comes just weeks after the app was taken down from the Play Store following a ban in the U.S. Beginning today, users on Android devices in the United States can access the TikTok and TikTok Lite apps by downloading the files directly from TikTok’s website. TikTok says it’s safe, secure, with code reviewed independently by security inspectors and Oracle; it’s up to Apple for when-or-if iPhone users may be able to get the app through the App Store again since Apple doesn’t allow sideloaded apps, but it remains available via its web app for the time being.
