Google has been expanding the availability of its Gemini Advanced features, bringing them closer to the users. An example of this is the partnership between Google and Samsung, in which Galaxy S25 users are offered a complimentary six-month subscription to Gemini Advanced. This premium AI model typically sells for $19.99 per month and is also shipped with advanced features such as bespoke AI models that are referred to as “Gems,” which allow users to customize the manner in which Gemini processes their input. Examples of such Gems include Brainstormer, Career Guide, and Coding Partner, and customers can even create their own bespoke Gems based on their personal needs.
Other than the Samsung partnership, Google has also been making Gemini Advanced features available to additional users via other channels. For instance, some promotions make Gemini Advanced available for free for one year to users. Such offers include advanced AI model access, first-line priority access to new features, and the ability to build custom AI experts on any topic. In addition, Gemini Advanced is coupled with the Google One AI Premium plan with 2 TB storage as well as app integration like Gmail and Docs.
One of the most significant additions to Gemini’s feature set is the recent addition of a feature that was previously only available to paying users. Any user can now use Gemini to analyze files, meaning they can upload documents from Google Drive or their device and receive summaries, insights, or even create charts from spreadsheets. The feature supports a variety of file types, including text files, code files, and documents created in Google Docs.
There is also indication that yet another of Gemini Advanced features, known as Deep Research, will be available to all in the near term. Deep Research allows for extended research reports pulled together from the web, but the free one might not be as complete as its full counterpart included with Gemini Advanced. That would be extending the pattern of features migrating from the paid level to the free level, enhancing the overall experience for all Gemini users.
Gemini Advanced is designed to process heavy-duty tasks with Google’s most powerful AI models, including Gemini 2.0 and experimental versions like 2.0 Pro. It has a 1 million token context window to allow users to process long documents and reports. Support for Google apps like Maps and Flights enables task management to occur in the chat interface itself.
Overall, Google’s strategy seems to be one of making its premium AI features more widely available, possibly with the aim of maximizing user satisfaction and engagement overall. By making premium features available to more users, Google is positioning Gemini as a best-of-breed AI assistant that can handle almost anything and everything that is thrown at it.
