Death Stranding 2 Set to Launch on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was unveiled to launch on June 26, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. The unveiling came in the middle of a panel at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival when Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima presented an entirely new trailer full of both game and cinematic assets captured on PS5 hardware.
The game will further venture into human connection in a post-apocalyptic scenario, building upon the narrative and gameplay of the first Death Stranding. Old characters like Sam Porter Bridges will be included, with Norman Reedus returning as himself. The new cast includes Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and George Miller. Returning characters like Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and Higgs (Troy Baker) were also hinted at in the trailer.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released in different editions, one of which is a Collector’s Edition. The Collector’s Edition includes a digital version of the full game, a 15-inch Magellan Man statue, art cards, a letter from Hideo Kojima, a 3-inch Dollman figurine, and in-game items. Surprisingly, purchasing the Collector’s Edition rewards players with two days of early access to the game, starting from June 24.
Pre-order sales for all versions of the game will begin on March 17, 2025. The base game will retail at $69.99, with the Digital Deluxe Edition offering additional in-game content for a $10 upcharge. The added content features an MP bullet-carrying machine gun and several patches.
The game’s narrative and gameplay seem to blend together elements of Kojima’s previous games, such as Metal Gear Solid, with references to old characters and monsters. Rapid action scenes and intimate moments of interaction between the game’s protagonist cast were showcased in the trailer, hinting at a complex narrative that explores concepts of identity and relationships amidst a world filled with danger.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach promises to deliver an immersive experience with its open world and the return of the Social Strand system, which allows players to interact with the world and other players in new ways. The focus on storytelling and character development promises to captivate series fans and newcomers alike.
It was followed by the SXSW reveal, which came after a discussion panel with Norman Reedus, Hideo Kojima, Troy Baker, and other top staff members from the game’s development. This was an elaborate preview of the game’s universe, characters, and gameplay style, generating mass hype among gamers and fans from all over the world.
