Samsung has finally pushed the One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which adds major improvements to the device’s software experience. The update adds features that were already present on other foldable phones, such as the Google Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. One of the greatest additions is the “swipe to continue” feature that makes it easy for people to switch apps from the inner screen to the outer screen when the phone is closed. It is accomplished by swiping up on the lock screen, which is a more convenient way of continuing with apps across different screens.
The “swipe to continue” function gives individuals the convenience of application continuity management. They can choose between three options: “Swipe to continue,” where one has a swipe to wake an application from the cover screen; “Always,” where one is automatically shown in the cover screen when closing the phone; and “Never,” where one gets locked with a lockdown as soon as one closes the phone. Still, it has been noted that this feature may not be supported by all applications.
The other major change in One UI 7 is that it adds an auto-hiding taskbar like the Pixel Fold. This one lets the taskbar show with a half-swipe up from the bottom of the screen like on iPads. Samsung’s taskbar had been either always showing or totally hidden, but nothing in between. The new feature provides a more seamless app-switching experience since users can quickly switch to the taskbar from an app.
The One UI 7 update also contains other enhancements to make the overall user experience better. These visual enhancements include a new home screen layout, a vertical app drawer, and dynamic notifications on the lock screen and notification shade. Samsung has also reworked the Camera app so that advanced features are more easily accessible.
While these changes are currently limited to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung plans to release the full One UI 7 update to the other Galaxy Z Fold phones in April 2025. This move comes after Samsung’s effort to enhance its foldables by incorporating features from other best-selling foldables and introducing a better and user-driven experience.
The inclusion of these features is a significant step for Samsung in the foldable segment as it works to maintain its leadership position and learn from other brands’ latest innovations. With the inclusion of popular features available in other offerings, Samsung is looking to deliver users an upgraded and more comprehensive experience that can lead to ongoing innovation in its foldables in the future.
