Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming new anime series, “Devil May Cry,” which will premiere on April 3, 2025. The trailer showcases the show’s over-the-top action sequences, with Dante, the iconic demon slayer, battling demons and human foes alike. The trailer is followed by Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” music, keeping the series’ tradition of early 2000s nu metal songs going, much like the use of Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin” for the opening theme.
The story tracks Dante, a demon-hunting orphan who is hired out, as he finds himself at the center of a diabolical scheme to open the portal between worlds. The portal, if opened, would introduce a new world order dominated by demons. The trailer introduces a series of the major characters, including Lady, an armed mercenary hunter, and the White Rabbit, an insane character that leads the forces attempting to open the portal.
Dante, who is also voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, is portrayed as a younger and more irresponsible form of himself compared to the video games. Bosch is a known voice from “Bleach” and “Trigun,” and has also voiced Nero in “Devil May Cry 4” and “Devil May Cry 5.” The voice acting also includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady, Hoon Lee as the White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo Ferino, and the late Kevin Conroy as VP Baines.
The trailer highlights Dante’s cool and arrogant demeanor as he freely kills demons and dodges missile fire using his sword. The second half of the trailer implies a battle with his twin brother, Vergil, which can be a major challenge for Dante. Vergil’s introduction is a sign of a significant role in the series, as it was in “Devil May Cry 3.”
The series is produced by Adi Shankar, who has also produced “Castlevania” and other series, and Alex Larsen. Shankar said he is committed to creating a top-tier adaptation that will live up to the hype of the well-known Capcom series. The animation is provided by Studio Mir, which has done “The Legend of Korra” and “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.”
The “Devil May Cry” series has been in development since 2018 as part of Shankar’s “Bootleg Universe.” Not only is the goal to have a fun first season, but also to lay the groundwork for the possibility of future seasons. With five mainline games to draw from, there is more than enough material for a long and action-filled run if the show is successful.
There is general eagerness for the premiere, guaranteed the explosive action and style the “Devil May Cry” series has made its name for. The inclusion of characters like Vergil and the White Rabbit indicates that the series will explore old and new ground in the Capcom universe.
