Bumble has launched several new features committed to enhancing users’ safety and compatibility on its platform. Among these is the ID Verification feature, which allows users to verify their identity by sharing a government document, such as a passport, driving license, or residence permit. The feature is optional and currently available in 11 markets, including the US, UK, Australia, France, and India, but will roll out in more markets in the near future.

Users who undergo the ID verification process are rewarded with a badge on their profile, which signals authenticity to potential matches. Users also have the ability to sort through profiles based on ID verification status and even request their matches to undergo the verification process. The feature is meant to appeal to safety-minded younger users and is part of Bumble’s broader efforts towards increasing safety on the platform.

In addition to ID authentication, Bumble has introduced a Share Date function, similar to Tinder’s “Share My Date” functionality. The feature allows users to share details of future dates, e.g., time and location, with known friends in real-time via the app. The feature promotes safety through real-time updates and accountability.

Bumble also expanded its Review Before You Send feature, a functionality that alerts whether a message may be suspicious and enables a user to rephrase it before sharing. It previously launched the tool for Compliments; now it rolls it out across the entire conversation on the platform.

Another key improvement is the Discover feature, intended to improve compatibility between matches. Users can tailor their Discover experience by refreshing interest badges, marking their dating intentions clearly, and filling out their profiles. The feature updates daily, prompting users to keep their profiles fresh and current, on a continuous basis.

The changes come after Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herde returned as CEO following a hiatus of over a year. The company has seen recent leadership changes with the departure of its Chief Financial Officer and the upcoming departures of its Chief Business Officer and Chief Technology Officer.

Collectively, Bumble’s new features are part of a broad strategic initiative to onboard safety-conscious users and improve the overall dating experience on the site. By making a dual focus on both safety and compatibility, Bumble is hoping to differentiate itself in the saturated field of dating apps.
