Apple has only recently published an updated Final Cut Pro for iPad and Final Cut Camera with several new features that are intended to enhance video editing and recording capabilities on Apple hardware.
Portrait Orientation Editing: One can now edit videos in portrait orientation, further enhancing the flexibility of editing processes on the iPad. This allows creators to edit content filmed in portrait mode, which is standard for social media.
New Keyboard Shortcuts: The update introduces new keyboard shortcuts to accelerate the editing process. The shortcuts enable users to nudge a selection, replace with a gap, and lift or overwrite to the main storyline faster.
Image Playground Integration: Integration on Image Playground allows users to use Apple Intelligence to produce stylized images based on descriptions, ideas suggested, or people from their Photos library. The feature requires an iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later, on iPadOS 18.2 or later.
50fps Video Capture: 50fps video capture provides additional edit agility and delivery options. This feature provides smoother playback and more immediate control over video content.
Telephoto Lens Support: Final Cut Camera now also switchers directly to the 48mm telephoto lens on iPhone 14 Pro and later. This feature proves particularly useful in capturing high-quality close shots.
Spatial Audio Recording: The users are able to record video in Spatial Audio on iPhone 16 and later. It provides greater depth to the audio experience with a more realistic and immersive sound environment.
50fps Video Recording: Similar to Final Cut Pro on iPad, Final Cut Camera also supports recording video at 50 frames per second. This provides smoother video playback and offers greater flexibility during editing.
Log Video Playback: Log videos can be played in SDR or HDR with the vibrancy of the original scene using the Apple Log LUT with Final Cut Camera. The feature is available on iPhone 15 Pro or later.
Final Cut Camera is designed to enable users to record from up to four devices simultaneously, and the recording can be easily imported into Final Cut Pro for iPad. The multicamera mode is ideal for producers who need to record multiple views at once.
Final Cut Pro for iPad is available as a subscription service for $49 per year or $4.99 per month. Final Cut Camera, on the other hand, is free.
These updates are part of Apple’s effort to continue to advance the creative capabilities of its mobile devices, making the iPad a serious production and editing force on the go.
