Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Coming to Switch in 2025

The highly anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is coming in 2025 with the updated remake of the RPG classics. It will be released on multiple platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The HD-2D visual aesthetic, blending pixel art character designs and 3D backgrounds, has been embraced for its retro yet modern appearance, as with other successful titles like Octopath Traveler.

The remake blends the first two titles in the series, creating a solid storyline based on the legendary hero Erdrick and his descendants. The compilation offers new and old fans alike a fresh experience of playing through the roots of the series. Dragon Quest I and II’s story is integral to the entire Dragon Quest lore, particularly as part of the Erdrick trilogy, with Dragon Quest III as a prequel.

Square Enix’s decision to remake these games reflects their commitment to the preservation of gaming history as well as bringing classic games into a more contemporary format for modern audiences. The HD-2D style maintains the games in their original charm but appeases those who like the aesthetic of more contemporary visuals. The remake should also include quality-of-life improvements such as the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, such as auto-save, improved UI, improved controls, and improved map systems.

The initial video of the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake was recently shown off in a Nintendo Direct presentation, with the remade gameplay and visuals. This comes after the successful launch of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake in 2024, which topped Japan’s best-seller list and broke worldwide sales expectations. The success of Dragon Quest III has brought hopes for good sales of the forthcoming remake.

The release of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake caps the remodernization of the original trilogy, with all three games now out with remastered graphics and gameplay. The collection is both a flashback experience for veteran fans and an introduction to the series’ roots for newcomers. The games are the core of the JRPG genre, with many of the conventions that have since become staple fare in role-playing games today.

Even though an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed, Square Enix has confirmed the game to release in 2025. The fans are patiently waiting for further details, including potential physical releases and specific quality-of-life features. The release of the remake on multiple platforms ensures that it will be accessible to a wide audience of consumers, and the gamers can enjoy the original RPGs on their preferred gaming device.
