Nintendo Switch 2 preorders confirmed to start April 2 alongside Direct presentation, says Best Buy Canada

Rumors and reports say pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin as early as April 2, 2025, in accordance with a scheduled Nintendo Direct presentation where the company will allegedly reveal more details about the console.

Matt Swider of The Shortcut, a deal-tracking website, anticipates that pre-orders could go live around 10 a.m. Eastern Time on April 2, 2025, shortly after the Nintendo Direct event at 9 a.m. ET13. This would be in line with the release of the first Nintendo Switch.

Best Buy Canada also made an announcement that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 224. Their blog post is a guide on how to pre-order the console24. It is not yet known whether other big-box stores will follow suit on the same date24. As of now, the Best Buy U.S. Switch 2 page has an option where customers can sign up to be notified of pre-order news.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was first announced via a short teaser trailer, as well as the new Mario Kart game, confirming the new console2. Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Direct event on April 2 to share more details on the console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 retail price has been speculated to be $399, which is $50 more than the Switch OLED model and $100 more than the original Switch launch price13. This speculation follows a previous listing by an Italian retailer that priced the console at approximately $379.25.

In addition to pre-order and pricing information, it is expected that the full specifications of the Switch 2 will be revealed, along with announcements about games beyond Mario Kart 91. Retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target are expected to carry the console, with potential availability at wholesalers like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s.

To address potential stock issues and scalping, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the company is acting proactively based on past experiences to ensure equal access to the console.

Nintendo will be organizing fan events in North American and European cities and also in Melbourne, Tokyo and Seoul in April and May26.
