Meta Hypernova Smart Glasses Set for 2025 Release with Premium Features.

Meta is preparing its second-generation smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova, for launch by the fourth quarter of 2025. The glasses build upon Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and will include a display within the base of the right lens. The display will display notifications, photos taken, and even translate speech in real-time. The glasses will run on a highly customized version of Android and have a home screen with horizontal icons, just like the Meta Quest device interface. But they will still rely heavily on the Meta View phone app for functionality.

The hardware upgrades include a more powerful camera and capacitive touch controls on the temple bars for navigating apps and photos. Additionally, Meta also plans to add a neural wristband controller, code-named Ceres, as an accessory to the glasses. The controller is employed for gesture control, i.e., scrolling by rotating hands or selecting items by pinching fingers. These upgrades are designed to provide users with seamless interaction and control over the functionality of the glasses.

Hypernova smart glasses will retail for $1,300 to $1,400 as they are loaded with sophisticated technology and a screen. Meta also has various wearable products in development, including Oakley-labeled smart glasses for athletes and bikers and other models like “Skylar” and “Headliner.” The pipeline suggests that there are plans to innovate more in augmented reality (AR), and AR glasses will be able to display holograms on the horizon for release in 2027.

These innovations align with Meta’s broader vision of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its products. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized the importance of generative AI to enhance user experiences on devices. With Hypernova and other wearables, Meta will attempt to gain a foothold in the exciting AR and wearable technology space while driving innovation that would define industry standards.
